Typical Ricardian tactics which I’m beginning to find extremely tedious. Matters haven’t looked so bleak or so black for R3 since Bosworth.trish wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01292123010612021866noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21031350.post-15335514643954294872010-09-27T23:40:50.050-04:002010-09-27T23:40:50.050-04:00Thanks, ladies! Ragged Staff, I suspect Edward of Lancaster, at least, would have insisted on fighting after Barnet anyway.

Kathryn, I was so pleased to find that article by Clarke! I don't believe that the dispensation is available in any printed source other than in his article.

Anerje, Katherine Vaux was with Margaret until her death--she witnessed her will. She returned to England and lived to a ripe old age, and her son and her daughter each served Henry VII and Henry VIII--her daughter, in fact, is the "Mother Guildford" who accompanied Henry VIII's sister Mary to her marriage to the French king.

Henry VI's remains were exhumed in 1910. The bones had apparently been dismembered before being put into the casket in which they were found (the right arm was missing, and a pig's bone was in the casket too). W. H. Hope, who reported about the remains, wrote that the "bones of the head were unfortunately much broken," but the main sign of violence he found was the fact that some hair was "apparently matted with blood."

I can't say I'm 100 percent certain Margaret was at the Tower the night Henry VI died, but it is known that she was displayed as a captive in the procession into London and that the Duke of Gloucester and many others were at the Tower that night, so it seems likely that Margaret would have been lodged there for the short term at any rate.Susan Higginbothamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13517907583894026599noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21031350.post-23336546282517001702010-09-27T12:56:39.462-04:002010-09-27T12:56:39.462-04:00I didn't know she was in the Tower either. I often think how much Margaret must have regretted allowing Louis to persuade her to put her future and her son's life in the hands of the earl of Warwick - though, of course, there'd have been fewer regrets had he won! Mind you, she could have returned to France when she got the news of his death at Barnet, I suppose, but pressed on anyway. Too late to turn back, I guess.Ragged Staffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13285451640470655380noreply@blogger.com
